What is a Vaginoplasty?
The vaginal muscles can lose their elasticity as a result of normal aging processes or childbirth resulting in a decrease in sexual gratification and well-being. A vaginoplasty, also known as vaginal tightening or vaginal rejuvenation, tightens the vaginal muscles by removing excess vaginal lining altering the function of the vagina without altering the outer appearance of the genitalia area.
Vaginoplasty should not be confused with a labiaplasty which alters the appearance of the labia, the external visible portion of the female genitalia. Both procedures can be, and often are, performed at the same time or independently, as they are different surgical procedures.
Candidates for vaginoplasty surgery are women who are in overall good health and who are seek to rejuvenate their vaginal function for any of the following reasons:
have given birth multiple times.
have vaginal muscles that have not contracted after childbirth.
have difficulty keeping tampons from falling out.
have tissue protruding from their vagina.
have have had partners frequently slip out during intercourse.
have reduced sensitivity in their vagina and/or
have difficulty being stimulated during vaginal intercourse.
Vaginoplasty is a simple surgical procedures offered at the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre that is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, patients are placed in lithotomy position and excess vaginal lining is incised to exposed the vaginal muscular lining.
