What is Mons Pubis Liposuction?

Protrusion over the pubic area can results from many different reason.  Whether from a congenital cause, weight gain, or due to the lost of abdominal weight, this curvature can make many feel self-conscious when wearing fitted clothing.  Like other liposuction procedure, Mons pubis liposuction sculpts and reduces the protrusion or curvature due to fat over the pubic bone. This can help women feel more confident about their body in any of their preferred style of clothing.

Suitable Candidates

Candidates for mons pubis liposuction are women who are in overall good health and are dissatisfied with the size or curvature of the mons pubis for any of the following reasons:

  • if they have unwanted protrusion or drooping of the mons pubis

  • if they have excess fat or skin in the mons pubis

  • if they have focal overhanging in the mons pubis area

Depending on your aesthetic goals, during your initial consultation, Dr. Chivers will give you a thorough examination to help determine exactly which procedures will best provide the results you are looking for.

Procedural Details

This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia, while you are sleeping, and is very straightforward procedure.  Fat deposits in the mons pubis that have accumulated either due to a  congenital cause or due to excessive weight gain are removed with a catheter through very small incisions (in the groin), thereby flattening this area and reducing the protrusion.  After the excess fatty tissue is removed, the small incision is closed and tight tensors are placed for compression to prevent excessive swelling and to help the area heal.

Recovery

The recovery process for a mons pubis liposuction is relatively quick and easy.  There will be some swelling and bruising for a few days and almost all activities, especially walking, should be avoided during this time.  Most patients are able to engage in light activities and to return to work after roughly a week.  Strenuous activities, especially workouts, such as running or riding a bicycle, can be resumed again after a few weeks.  Dr. Chivers will let you know when you can return to these types of aerobic activities. If you have any questions or concerns during the recovery process, the staff at the Canadian Plastic Surgery Centre are always available to provide any assistance you need.

Post-op Instructions at a Glance
  • Swelling bruising and general discomfort is normal after any liposuction procedures.  Discomfort typically lasts for 2-4 weeks as the body heals.

  • You should take over the counter pain medication or your prescribed pain medications to manage pain

  • Tensors are placed over the liposuction areas.  The tensors should be used for the first week after surgery and then switched over to compression garments to help with the healing process and help reduce the swelling

  • You can shower the day following your surgery and should gently wash the wounds with soap and water.  DO NOT bath, swim or soak your incisions in a pool of water for 2 weeks after surgery.

  • You will have a follow-up 10-14 days after your surgery to remove any stitches

  • You should refrain from vigorous activity for about 2-4 weeks after your surgery.

  • You should wear a sports bra for 2 weeks after your surgery until after your follow-up apointment
