What is a Brazilian
Buttock Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift or augmentation is a procedure that functions to enlarge, enhance the shape of flat or poorly developed buttocks.  Similar to breast enhancement surgery, some individuals may find that the size of their buttock is inadequate for their figure and may choose to enhance their buttock region.  A Brazilian Butt Lift utilizes fat that is grafted from other areas of the body to be placed into the buttock area for a fuller more round appearance, often creating that appearance of a butt lift.

Suitable Candidates

Candidates for a Brazilian butt lift are patients who are in overall good health and have not had previous complications from other surgical procedures or anesthesia.

Finally, most good candidates usually have one of the following:

  • Dissatisfaction with the size of buttock region.

  • Patients that have some excess fat to be harvested for grafting into the buttock region.

Procedural Details

Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is performed under a general anesthesia. During the procedure, an small incision is made along areas where fat is to be harvested.  This includes the flanks, lower abdomen, thighs, back or arms.  A catheter is placed in which breaks up the fat in this region and harvested to a chamber.  This fat is then process and then injected into the areas of the buttock that requires additional volume.  The fat is sculpted by Dr. Chivers to give a smooth, full and round appearance.

It is important to note that the size of the buttocks will look largest immediately after surgery however over 3 months after surgery, the buttock will decrease in size.  Immediately after surgery, there is significant amount of swelling and inflammation which begins to decrease approximately 2-4 weeks after surgery.  Additionally, with any fat grafting procedure, approximately 50% of the fat is absorbed by the body’s natural absorption and healing process.  Thus, the size of the buttock at 3 months after surgery is typically the final size of the buttock, after the body has normalized through it’s natural healing process.

Buttock Brazilian Lift vs. Butt Lift vs Buttock Augmentation?

A Butt Lift is a procedure that is beneficial for patient’s who experience a sagging or drooping of their buttock as a result of weight fluctuations and their the normal aging process.  A buttock lift aims to remove and additional skin and fat that develops creating a round and smoother contour of the buttock region after surgery.  Butt lift procedures does not add any additional volume to the patient’s buttock region.

Buttock Augmentation is an alternative for patients who would like to enhance the size of the buttock with the use of implants, like breast augmentation surgery. However buttock augmentation with implants often does not create as smooth contours as a Brazilian Butt Lift and has risk and complications associated with implants.
